Meeting Minutes

The Syrian Engineers for Construction and Development Organization (SECD) invited the local councils and their affiliated water units in Aleppo and Idlib governorates, where SECD has implemented projects. They attended on Thursday, 10/8/2017, representing the following areas: Atarib – Ma’arat Atarib – Tal Karama – Dana – Hazrah – Taladah – Turmanin – Darat Azza – Deir Semaan.

The following points were discussed during the meeting:

  1. The current status of the water project implemented by SECD.
  2. Collection (capabilities and challenges).
  3. Needs of the water, sanitation, and hygiene sectors in each town or city.

The local councils prepared summaries of the work and materials provided by SECD, detailing the materials received for work within the water units and the technical status of equipment related to the water sector.

The meeting concluded the following:

  1. Emphasis on the necessity to document the work of water units, including preparing both paper and electronic reports for every pumping station and well belonging to a water unit. Each component within the unit, generators, electrical panels, type and quantity details must be classified. This documentation is crucial, as most water units lack documentation of their equipment except for the Dana and Darat Azza water units.
  2. Continuing the collection process was stressed. The collection methods used by each local council were discussed, and the most suitable methods previously presented in workshops were clarified to the councils.
  3. Emphasis on water chlorination to reduce waterborne diseases. SECD pledged to provide chlorine for Dana, Turmanin, and Deir Semaan with utmost urgency.
  4. All councils requested a “Data Entry” training course to train a member of the local council staff on how to use Google Earth drawing tools, Excel, and email for correspondence.
  5. The water problem in Dana was raised, highlighting insufficient water resources due to the large population and many daily visitors. SECD confirmed it is currently studying with its partners the drilling of three additional wells in Dana and connecting them to the network to solve the water issue.
